TIMBER CAP RAIL & PVC RUB RAIL
PREPARATION OF TIMBER HULLS
- Mask the area not to be scratched, and to keep excess sealant away from.
- Lightly abrade the contact area on the hull with a sanding pad, (120 grit)
- Brush or vacuum clean the substrate removing all dust and debris, we recommend in critical areas to prime the timber with Fixseal Epoxy.
PREPARATION OF STEEL, GRP, ALUMINIUM AND PAINTED HULL.
- Mask the area not to be scratched,
- Lightly abrade the contact area on the hull with a sanding pad, (120 grit)
- Clean the surface with 100% alcohol cleaner or Methylated spirits using a clean, lint free cloth.
PREPARATION OF TIMBER CAP RAILS & BONDING
- Abrade the contact surface with sanding pad, (100 grit), removing all dust. Clean the surface with clean water using a clean, lint free cloth.
- Apply Fix30 over the full surface area to both substrate and the hull
- Assemble components within 20 minutes of applying adhesive, adjustments can be made there after.
- Press the capping/rub rail into place directly onto the face of the hull, Use clamps and other fastening aids to hold the rail in place while the adhesive sets. If the rub rail is to be secured with thru mechanical fixings, any holes should also be filled with FIX30 adhesive.
- Clamps and other fastening aids can be removed after 12-24 hours depending on temperature.
- Full service strength is attained after approximately 7 days
- Exposed joint seam edge should be sealed with Fix190 (MSP190) or Fix15 (MSP15) top and bottom as required.
PREPARATION OF MOULDED PVC OR POLYURETHANE
- The bond face of the rub rails must be free from mould, release agents, and other chemical contaminants. All traces of such substances must be removed before proceeding.
- Clean the inside bonding surface with 100% alcohol cleaner or Methylated spirits using a clean, lint free cloth
- Abrade the bond face of the rub rail with course sand paper, (120 grit) to key the surface, if PVC sand it by hand so as to not melt the PVC.
- Clean the inside bonding surface with 100% alcohol cleaner or Methylated spirits using a clean, lint free cloth.
Note: If you are not sure what material your rub rail is made of, consult your supplier.
APPLICATION OF Fix15 (MSP15) OR Fix190 (MSP190)
- Dry fit the rub rail to make sure all fits.
- Mask either side of the rub rail to cover the area on the hull you do not need sealant to cover.
- Apply Fix15(MSP15) or Fix190(MSP190) into the rub rail profile,
- Assemble components within the skin time of the applied adhesive.
- Press the rub rail into place, either directly onto the face of the hull, or fitted over the core profile.
- Use clamps and other fastening aids to hold the rail in place while the adhesive sets. If the rub rail is to be secured with mechanical fixings, any holes should also be filled with adhesive.
- Clamps and other fastening aids can be removed after minimum 24 hours. Full service strength is attained after approximately 7 days. Temperature dependent.
